The Royal Rumble
Bank Holiday Monday 28th August 2017 – 6:45 pm
Cat B Short 4.97 miles (8km), 958 ft (292m)
For the 3rd year running the weather smiled on us at the Royal Arms Tockholes as 71 runners arrived to take part in the event. 70 of them completed the 5 mile route as one runner dropped out at MP4 and did the right thing by reporting to the marshalls there and to the finish team.
Stephen Hall of Ribble Valley Harriers was the first to cross the line in 34:59. He had a clear margin over Paul Brindle of Blackburn Harriers and Daniel Hughes of Red Rose Runners who were involved in a tight finish. Mark Walsh of Horwich was next in and awarded the VETs prize.
Joanne Nelson of Blackburn Harriers was the first lady home in 41:00 and she also broke Elizabeth Greenwoods course record from 2015. Mary Green (Bingley), Dawn Tibbs (Trawden) and Nicola Hughes (Red Rose Runners) were the next 3 ladies home taking the 4 ladies awards.
The team award deservedly went to Red Rose Runners. They included the race in their club championship and came with 21 runners. Daniel Hughes, Stewart Cann, Nicola Hughes and Anneke Crosby were the team counters.
Also Mark McCrea won a 45 minute therapy session put forward as a spot prize by Carly Edwards who you can contact at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07881017426.
Many thanks to the volunteers that help put the race on. As usual the majority are my Blackburn Harriers club colleagues, but we also have a sprinkling of “guest” marshalls who come to support the event.
Many thanks also to Bolton MRT who provided cover and who have been sent a £120 donation from the proceeds of the event.
