Sabden Fell Race
The weather was kind to us on race day. Predicted rain and possible thunder storms certainly didn’t materialise on the morning or during the event.
Although the race had been run once before, this is the first time it has been an one race as previously it had been a Lancashire Fell Championships. It was great to get such positive comments about the race from many runners.
45 Runners made the start line and all completed, although there were a few nav issues for a few. Some of you really need to be careful turning up without the necessary navigation skills; we were lucky it was a clear day.
Grant Cunliffe (Rossendale) came home in 1st place in 40:50 ahead of Dave Motley (Clayton) and Oliver Heaton (Preston). Nick Gaskell (Ribble Valley) was first Male Vet.
Local Deborah Gowans (Accrington RR) was first lady home followed by Victoria Peel (Barlick) and Jean Rawlinson (Barlick). Julie Balchin took the Lady Vet award.
Barlick took the Team award based on best 2 male and best 2 female competitors.
Thanks to my marshalls and officials, covering a race a little off-patch for Blackburn members, John Schofield for the results, Sabden Village Hall for the use of their hall and the refreshments and a special thanks to Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue Team who will receive a donation from the event and do such great work for us around East Lancashire.
